Netty’s Sweets began as a simple curiosity and grew into a sweet little chocolate shop in downtown Toms River. Co-founders Annette Matiskiel, driven by a love of baking and dessert making, and Nick Decuicies, armed with creative ideas and recipes, started by taking candy-making classes. One batch led to another, pop-ups turned into repeat customers, and a cottage-food hobby became a hometown favorite.
What started at farmers’ markets and vendor events eventually found a permanent home in 2024 with our grand opening inside Downtown Shops @ 53 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753 We are in the same space as Spire Coffeehouse and Muller’s Creamery.
From day one, Annette designed the space to feel warm and welcoming, like a little Cape May discovery you’re glad you stumbled upon. Judging by the smiles (and the compliments), it worked.
What Makes Our Chocolate, Ours
Everything begins with premium, European-style chocolate – smooth, creamy, and the heart of every recipe we make. Whether milk, dark, or white, we pair our chocolate with thoughtfully chosen fruits, nuts, and flavor combinations that keep people coming back.
It’s true: you can buy chocolate anywhere. We believe ours has something extra – a loving, listening quality. Many of our treats are inspired by customer ideas and imaginations. When neighbors tell us what they’re craving, we listen.
From Markets to Main Street
We started as a cottage food business, taking orders for friends and family and setting up at community events. In the early days we sold more baked goods than chocolates (weather will do that). When we shifted our focus fully to chocolate, we brought everything indoors so our sweets could stay happy and climate-controlled.
Downtown Toms River welcomed us with open arms. The Toms River Farmers Market helped introduce us to so many wonderful people, some of the “little ones” we met back then now pick out their own favorites in the shop. We cherish the small-town feel here. On Friday nights, we stay open late for Downtown Night Out (weather permitting) because we love being part of the neighborhood’s energy.

Yes, we still take special orders, and we encourage them – especially for short-shelf-life favorites like fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries and chocolate or caramel apples. We create for:
